What Is HIIT?
This type of training is called high-intensity interval training.
HIIT workouts consist of alternating between bursts of high-intensity exercise and low-intensity exercise, usually with a ratio of 20 to 30 seconds of intense exercise followed by 15 to 30 seconds of rest or less-intense exercise. High intensity interval training is an amazing workout for burning fat and calories. It’s an effective total body workout with drills, circuits, interval and cross training allowing you to improve endurance, strength, and develop a lean and toned body.
What are the benefits?
HIIT workouts are efficient since you’re working to your max, you burn more calories in less time.
Interval workouts, compared to steady-paced ones, have a higher afterburn effect, meaning you continue to burn calories after your workout is over for a longer period of time.
Health-wise, intervals improve your cardiovascular health, cholesterol profile, and insulin sensitivity (which helps fight type 2 diabetes).
One of the great advantages with HIIT is you can get an effective workout in less time and lack of time is one of the main reasons people say they don’t exercise.
Consider this style of workout no matter what kind of shape you’re in. The beauty of this is to define “high intensity” based on your own fitness level. Come work out with us 🙂
