I was working out with my husband at Lifetime Fitness and was not very motivated. He had to motivate me every time we worked out. Working out wasn’t something I looked forward to. I felt I needed to try something different than the traditional gym membership route.
I thought these people are crazy! There is no way I’m going to be able to do this. The thing that “sealed the deal” was when Matt Phillips considered me an athlete. I was never very good at sports growing up. I tried basketball, tennis and softball but wasn’t very good at any of them. When I started Crossfit and was looked at as an athlete, it motivated me and gave me self-confidence, a self-confidence I had never experienced before.
My biggest accomplishment at CFS was when I joined the 300 club. I think I was the first female athlete at CFS to accomplish that goal. I deadlifted 300 pounds, which was quite an accomplishment for me.
I would tell people to give Crossfit a try. My sister bothered me for months to try it, but I resisted. Once I did try Crossfit, I fell in love. There is an overwhelming sense of community. Crossfit has made me stronger than I ever thought I could be.
Thank you, Matt, for always pushing me. You’re a great coach and motivator. I appreciate all that you’ve done for me over the past 5 years.
